HOME LEARNING
Autumn Term Project Homework
Reading
In Year 2, reading continues to be a priority.
Reading is the foundation of every child’s education and opens the door to every area of the curriculum. To support your child to give them the best opportunities, we ask that every child reads at home a minimum of four times each week, with 15-20 minutes each day as a minimum.
Research shows that a child reading for just 20 minutes each day is exposed to around 1.8 million words each year, compared with approximately 282,000 words for a child who reads for only five minutes a day.
Children in Year 2, will be given a RWI book and corresponding book-bag book OR once they have completed the RWI scheme, a self-chosen chapter book from our collection of recommended reads. Children should read these at home with parents, and a record of this should be kept by signing their reading records.
Maths
We encourage children to access Numbots and/or TT Rockstars at home at least 3 times a week.
Supporting this learning is important to embed basic number fluency in children which supports them with the maths they learn in school.
Spelling
Year 2 is the foundation year for developing knowledge of Spelling Rules.
In school, children will be introduced and taught a variety of Spelling Rules. Once they have learnt these rules in school they will be set Spelling Homework, this homework will entail practising using the spelling rule to develop automaticity in their writing.
To complete their homework, children should either ...
- Practise using the Spelling Shed app at least 3 times per week.
- Complete the activity sheet that are sent home.
